How to Succeed with Your Executive Coach

by Art Petty, Management & Leadership Expert

Executive coaching recommended by the board of directors or a senior manager is an indication of a desire to invest in high potential individuals. The focus of a coaching process is growth from good to great, or great to greater. The author suggests the following seven ideas to help an executive to get the most out of the coaching experience.

  1. Accept that there is room for growth.
  2. Bring a Beginner’s Mind.
  3. Recognize that the coach’s role is not to offer answers or to do the work.
  4. Accept that success means you will have to change your behaviors.
  5. Accept that you need help from those around you.
  6. Create additional mechanisms to reinforce accountability.
  7. Show up to your coaching meetings and be in the moment.
