Business management books often dedicate a chapter on the attributes of successful leaders to assist the reader to set behavior goals to emulate. In many cases, pro-athletes are used as role models and personal experiences from their competitive events to dmonstrate each attribute. While good examples, if you are on the golf course or tennis court, it is questionable how readily the reader is able to apply them in the business context that they work in.
The following list introduces five attributes that I have observed were key to the success of business leaders that I have worked with.

However, if your expectations of others are beyond what you would expect of yourself then you are likely to be disappointed. Here are a list of 9 expectations you should avoid to be successful as a leader.
Don't expect people to:
- Agree every time you speak.
- Acknowledge you when you berate yourself.
- Respect you when you don't respect yourself.
- Tell you what to do when you have no idea what you want.
- Stay when they're ready to go.
- Know what you're thinking when you don't know yourself.
- Fix things when you can't find solutions for yourself.
- Make you a priority when you haven't made yourself important.
- Forgive you when you don't forgive yourself.
